Rivanna Investments at UVA (“Rivanna”) is an investment management organization run by students at the University of Virginia School of Law. The goal of Rivanna is to promote opportunities for UVA Law students to learn about financial concepts through educational activities and by managing a live investment portfolio.
Rivanna was founded in 2010 with $100,000 in seed capital from the Law School Foundation. As of May 2017, Rivanna manages a portfolio of U.S. equities totaling more than $160,000.
A student Executive Board oversees all activities of Rivanna. Rivanna members who wish to be designated as Partners are responsible for presenting a thesis on a stock to the club each academic year. After the presentation, Rivanna’s Investment Committee will determine whether any changes to the portfolio will be made. This recommendation is submitted to the Law School Foundation for final approval. No prior investment experience is necessary, and investors of all skill levels are welcome.
Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University.
